-===== 2018 Satellite Workshop Announcement =====+===== SNI Satellite Workshop Announcement Sept. 19th – 20th 2018 =====
 +==== "Get the best of all": Structure research by merging the peculiarities of synchrotron, neutron, electron or ion radiation ====
 +Nowadays challenges in physics, chemistry, biology and material sciences often require crystallographic / structural studies that combine smartly various scattering methods using complementary synchrotron, neutron, electron or ion radiation.
 +The workshop consists of two parts: in the first part, the peculiarities of the different kinds of radiation and their generation be discussed including an overview of the corresponding large scale facilities and the kind of methods they offer for structure analysis. In the second part, focusing on applications, experienced scientists will give an insight into the unique information they gain by merging the complementary methods. The following topics are planned:
 +  * quantum phenomena/correlated systems (magnetism and superconductivity)
 +  * macromolecular and biological studies (life sciences)
 +  * functional materials for energy research
 +  * etc.
 +The workshop will take place from Sept. 19th 2018 afternoon (16:00h) to Sept. 20th 2018 until lunchtime (13:00h). In addition, an optional guided tour through the Heinz-Maier-Leibnitz research reactor FRM II in the afternoon of Sept. 20th is planned at 15:00h. Please note that participation in the guided tour requires a registration until August 31rd latestly.
 +The event is organized by the working group “Neutron Scattering” of the German Society of Crystallography (DGK). A registration to the SNI conference is not required to participate in this workshop. The workshop is located on the TUM campus near the location of the SNI conference (details will follow soon).

-**Due to organisatoric reasons the satellite workshop right after the annual meeting of the DGK has been canceled.**+**Shedule (preliminary version, titles may change)**

-**Instead we will offer a satellite workshop around the german conference about research with synchrotron, neutron and ion radiation on large scale facilities (also known as SNI) in September 2018 in Garching.** +**Sept. 19th 2018**
-The workshop will offer lectures on the basics and various methods and examples of diffraction, spectroscopy, etc. with neutrons, X-rays/synchtrotron and ions focusing on the requirements of crystallographers. Also, there will be the opportunity for detailed discussions and exchange of experience between users and instrument scientists. Interested persons are cordially invited to register by sending a short e-mail with the header "Neutron Workshop 2018" directly to the working group spokesman [[Martin.Meven@frm2.tum.de|Martin Meven]].\\ +
-Further details will be available soon.+
